Makwaia is an Dark-Pop artist, born and raised in NYC, now based in LA. With artists as parents, she grew up immersed in creativity, singing before she could even speak, and developing a lifelong love for music that defies genre boundaries. Her songs are as emotionally charged as they are provocative. Blending alternative, pop, punk, and R&B, with a narrative through-line of raw honesty and subversive angst - she ties it all up in a bow of deeply evocative and powerful vocals during high energy shows.

One half of the folk noir duo Sybling, Makwaia released her first solo project, Orpheus, in 2025, exploring themes of persona and masks in the digital age, pulling back the curtain on what’s false or fabricated in society. Her next EP, Knife Play, will drop this Fall, and is a dark electronic take on kink and sovereignty. Through her music, she challenges perceptions and invites listeners to confront the blurred lines between reality and performance.
